Over the past several years, Mexico City has become a hot spot for travelers as cheap flights and a burgeoning food scene have made this an ideal destination for travelers who wish to discover its temples, museums, and restaurants while sticking to a budget.
As such, the choices of hostels have exploded in number and have become a lot a lot more luxurious, using better accommodations than before.
But they are still cheap!
Beds normally cost 220-430 MXN per night. Plus, lots of hostels offer tours, complimentary breakfast, and common areas for meeting other travelers.
I’ve been checking out Mexico City for a decade and have stayed in dozens upon dozens of places. There are a lot of things to consider when selecting a hostel. The top four when picking the best hostel in Mexico City are:
Location – Mexico City is huge and it can take some time to get around. pick a place that is central to the sites and nightlife you want to see. All the hostels provided here are in central locations.
Price – In Mexico City, you really get what you pay for, so if you opt for a really cheap one, you’re probably going to get a hostel that is small, cramped, and doesn’t offer great service.
Amenities – Every hostel in the city uses complimentary Wi-Fi, and a lot of have a complimentary breakfast, but if you want a lot more than that, be sure to do your research to find the hostel that best meets your needs!
Staff – All the hostels provided here have remarkable staff! They are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. even if you don’t end up staying at one of the places provided below, be sure to look up reviews to make sure you end up somewhere where the staff is helpful and friendly! They can make or break a hostel!

1. Casa Pepe
Hands-down the best hostel in Mexico City, Casa Pepe is equal parts cultural hub and boutique hostel. It uses a plethora of activities for travelers like in-house concerts, wrestling trips, tequila tastings, standard dishes for breakfast, and complimentary daily walking excursions in different areas of town.
The rooms are clean, spacious, and come with private lockers. The dorm beds are cubby-like and covered by a curtain, so you can have your own private space, which makes sleeping a lot easier. They also come with their own light and USB charger port. You can take pleasure in yoga in the morning and kick back on the rooftop terrace in the evening (there’s a rooftop swimming pool too!).
If you’re trying to find a social hostel that makes it easy to meet people, this is it! It’s also located in a great part of the historic center of the city, near the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Zócalo.

2. Massiosare El Hostel
Towering over Mexico City, Massiosare El Hostel is located in the penthouse of a beautiful historic building. There’s no elevator up to the hostel (which is on the 4th floor), but it a lot more than compensates with relaxing dorm rooms and a incredibly chill rooftop. The views from the roofing are incredible, and it’s a fun place to kick back at night and listen to music with other travelers.
There are two kitchens (one for vegetarians and one for meat eaters) as well as a complimentary breakfast every morning. It’s another great social hostel where it’s incredibly easy to meet people. just make sure to bring earplugs considering that it’s an old building and sounds tend to carry.

3. Hostel Home
Hostel home is Mexico City’s first hostel. located in the Roma district, this place feels is incredibly homey. It’s small, with colorful paintings on the walls and tons of potted plants. There are comfortable beds, complimentary drinking water, and good Wi-Fi.
The rooms are a little cramped, but each dorm bed has its own locker and power socket. There’s a large common area in which to socialize and a guest kitchen too. Het personeelzijn ook ongelooflijk behulpzaam en kunnen informatie leveren over de omgeving en dingen om in de buurt te doen. Als je een veel meer “oude school” hostelgevoel wilt, is deze plek het.

4. Suites DF Hostel
Suites DF Hostel ligt in de drukte van de binnenstad in de buurt van tonnen bars, restaurants en cafés. Toch is het een beetje stiller dan andere hostels, dus als je een feesthotel wilt vermijden, blijf dan hier.
Over het algemeen zijn de kamers schoon en eenvoudig, en de lakens hebben heldere, funky ontwerpen die de plaats opfleuren. Alle slaapzalen hebben een eigen badkamer en er is een persoonlijk licht en een stopcontact voor elk bed. Er zijn meerdere gemeenschappelijke kamers om in, een koeld terras om te ontspannen, en elke ochtend gratis ontbijt.
Het hostel gebruikt ook veel geweldige excursies om de bezienswaardigheden te zien en andere mensen te ontmoeten. Ze hebben ook uitstapjes opgezet naar de Teotihuacán-piramides, de Canals van Xochimilco en Lucha Libre Wrestling-wedstrijden.

5. Wanderlust-district
Wanderlust-district is een sociaal – maar geen feest – hostel, dus het is de beste plek als je mensen wilt ontmoeten, maar niet de hele nacht woede. De eigenaren gaan echt uit van hun manier om iedereen welkom te laten voelen. Er zijn allerlei georganiseerde activiteiten en zelfs een groep WhatsApp-chat, zodat u altijd kunt weten wat er aan de hand is en verbinding maakt met andere gasten. Er is ook elke ochtend een buitengewoon gratis ontbijt (inclusief vegete opties).
De Wi-Fi is snel en er is een coworking-ruimte (dus veel digitale nomaden en externe werknemers blijven hier) en er zijn beide privékamers en een paar kleine slaapzalen (max. 6 bedden), allemaal met een stapelbed Bedden met privacygordijnen en individuele leeslampjes.

Mexico-stad en het hostelscène hier is snel een van de beste in de regio.
